More images of the Long March - courtesy YPL

These pictures were taken by Kashif Saleem, a member of the YPL (Young Professionals Lahore) group. The group had organised a bus and had mobilised 25+ professionals for a gruelling 24 hours.

The most interesting pictures are those showing the response of hitherto un-interested citizens... one gets the feeling that a lot of people were at least thinking about letting hope back into their attitude towards a collective life.

Yes, it failed in its superficial objectives. But just to see that spark of hope again, to dare to think that these kids might grow up in a better - a fairer, a more humane - society, just for that, it's worth doing ten times over:

PTI - improvements - Tulip Hotel - 7:42 AM

Great show by PTI yet again at Tulip Hotel, Jhelum where a part of their rally just arrived. Signs of improved organisation and mobilisation in PTI.

Update from Ale @ 7:34 AM

Waiting at the Tulip Hotel, Jhelum for the rest of the caravan to arrive. The response of the public along the way was amazing. Hundreds warmly welcomed us at every camp every few kilometres, even at 4 and 5 AM in the morning. Dance, slogans, dhol, revolutionary music, anger and agitation, joy and enthusiasm. People at camps offered us food, drinks, water all along the way. "Go Musharraf go!" - loud and clear, all around.

Looking forward to huge crowd at Isb.

Rallies from NWFP to reach zero point by 11 AM.

Update from YPL Bus @ 6am

When we reached Tulip Hotel it was pitch dark at 4:30 and now it is quite bright at 6. People are sleeping in every possible corner they can find.

Just received a call from Saudia that speeches have not yet finished at Gujrat. We have been waiting here for 2 hours and still no sign.

We are sitting in the hotel's lawn facing river Jhelum, fighting the mosquitoes.

I think we made a mistake, we should have stayed at Gujrat. At least it would have charged us up.

Update from YPL Bus

It is 4:10 am and except for a couple of guys everyone is still awake. We have just crossed Kharian. Aitezaz Ahsan is supposed to be giving a speech at Gujrat. We are heading straight to Tulip hotel on river Jehlum where a few buses have already reached. There we will wait for main rally. On our way we came across reception camps at different cities, some of them were packed and the ones after Gujrat were waiting for the main rally. At some camps, lawyers were giving speeches but at one camp the people were from some news channel.

An attendant at a petrol pump told us that he had counted 65 buses since morning which stopped there and there were 100s which passed through. He also told us that a bus from Multan had stayed for many hours and a couple of people on the bus were sick.

Now it is 4:20 and we are passing through Sarai Alamgir. Reception camp here has about 100 people and some guy in a white shalwar kameez was addressing them.
